For staunch unbelievers Christmas is just another holiday based on religious hooplah and celebrated for the fun of Santa, parties, gifts, and time off.
Missed is the opportunity to look into the definition of Love, the real One who brought it in human form to earth to save mankind from sin. God is Love. Defined. Described. Decided. Definitive. No match found in humanity. Nothing humanity can do to equal it. Nothing mankind can do to replicate it. Especially without acknowledging who it is, not what it looks like, not what it seems like or feels like, not what it's "supposed" to be in the human mind's eye.
Love is unfathomable.
If your father, mother, sister, brother, son, daughter, friend, etc., turned on you and disavowed everything you stood for, everything you'd ever provided for their benefit, denied every good thing done on your behalf, you would know God's sorrow. If you didn't react in hatred, vengeance, brutality, or malice, you would know God's heart. If, instead, you allowed your loved one(s) to do as they chose, watched with anguish the trouble and pain they brought upon themselves, but you provided a way for them to be reinstated to the good life, forgave them for their deliberate attacks against all that was profitable to their character and well-being, and in this provision you included an eternity packed with beauty, truth, glory, and unimaginable bliss, you would be God, who you cannot be.
This Love is unfathomable.
Nothing's free, right? What's the catch? Well, here it is: Ask Jesus Christ to forgive you and take over your life for you. Yield to the One who sacrificed His life to pay the price for your sinfulness - your wrong actions, words, commitments to bad choices and deeds. Ask Him to create a clean heart in you. That's what eternity with God requires.
The Holy Spirit touches souls, seeks out hurting hearts to draw them to Jesus Christ, to end their search for meaningful endeavors and redirect those goals to specifically designed objectives personalized for individuals willing to admit their humanity has failed them.
Yes, it'a all unfathomable. A Savior, born of a virgin, performer of miracles, the God-man Jesus Christ, miracle worker in every way, came to earth to set man free from eternal death and sin, his birth celebrated at "Christmas". Who can believe it? It's like a fairytale. I suppose it is. More like it's supernatural. All it takes to believe is a tiny element of faith, the willingness to acknowledge something, Someone, bigger than yourself, larger than humanity in all of its desecrating failures, philosophies, and religions. Jesus waits just for you. Because God is Love. Don't let Him be unfathomable to you this day. You don't want to pass on the original lover of your soul.
In the Name of Jesus, Amen. And a truly Merry Christmas.
