Book One of In the Shadows Trilogy: The Color of Sky and Stone by Sara Davison.
Canadian author Sara Davison always writes well and with plenty of intrigue and interesting characters. The Color of Sky and Stone is no exception. Deep cover/covert operative Tane Temauri, "Vapor," is on assignment in Vancouver, Canada, when on a strictly surveillance op, he and his partner "Victor" are detected and the shooting begins. Tragedy strikes resulting in a failed op.
As Tane struggles with what happened, his boss, Beck, wants him to lay low for a while, and when he spots a tossed piece of a restaurant placemat in his partner's garbage, he reads the handwritten note on it. The words on the note inspire him to write a letter in return, and he has no idea why he would do such a thing. So without revealing himself, he answers the note and a letter correspondence begins where Tane ends up revealing something in detail about himself he's told to no one.
The conversation between these two strangers touches them both deeply, and although Tane hasn't revealed he isn't his partner, the woman on the other end already believes he's not the man she met casually and only briefly in a restaurant where she wasn't supposed to be. Neither knows who the other is, but they both want to know. Tane begins to see how futile it is to even contemplate meeting her - his job is too dangerous to allow anyone into his life which would consequently put them in serious peril. Little does he know who he's writing to until he happens to figure it out when he's out walking to go hang out where his elderly neighbor volunteers at a soup kitchen. Something she'd included in her letter to him made all the pieces fit together. And he realizes a real relationship can never be.
Two contrasting lifestyles, some personal healing for Tane, he wants to resume his work, and everything erupts in an unforeseen encounter.
Sara has created a thoughtful story of two lonely strangers who meet in letters before either of them knows who the other is. Their personal journeys toward finding real love in the midst of impossibilities and genuine desire capture the heart of their conflicts. Is it possible to find a viable solution for them?
If you're looking for a quality storyteller, Sara Davison is definitely one to try with her unique and entertaining bounty of stories, The Color of Sky and Stone being one of them.
Father, please bless Sara as only you can do. Let her feel your presence and reap your abundance. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
